When J. Ridley Stroop first conducted his study, he had no idea of the effect it would have on psychology. There have been thousands of followup studies and we still don't have a complete idea of why it occurs.
For this lab task, your job is to pair with a lab partner so that one of you can engage in the task while the other records the data. Then you will reverse roles, with the experimenter becoming the participant.
You will engage in four tasks with different stimuli. In each one, however, you will identify the color of the ink in which the stimulus appears, doing your best to ignore the word itself and its meaning.
Go through the task as fast as you can, but try not to make errors. That is, go as fast as you can while maintaining accuracy.
When your lab partner gives you the signal, click on the appropriate trial below. After you finish, return to this page and get ready for the next trial, until you have completed them all.
On each trial, READ DOWN THE COLUMNS, STARTING WITH THE UPPER LEFT HAND COLUMN.
